Effect of FOCUS-PDCA on prevention of pulmonary infections in patients with chemotherapy

Abstract: OBJECTIVE To explore the clinical effect of FOCUS-PDCA on prevention of pulmonary infections in patients with chemotherapy. METHODS The clinical data of 168 patients with lung cancer who underwent chemotherapy in our hospital from Apr. 2013 to Oct. 2016 were retrospectively analyzed, including 87 patients in observation group and 81 patients in control group. The control group was treated with conventional chemotherapy of lung cancer and the observation group was treated with FOCUS-PDCA chemotherapy. The general data of the two groups of patients were collected and the incidence of pulmonary infection was recorded. The types of pathogenic bacteria in the two groups of patients with pulmonary infection were recorded. The duration of pulmonary infection and the incidence of adverse reactions in both groups were recorded. The quality of life score before and after treatment was scored by a comprehensive quality of life questionnaire. RESULTS The incidence of pulmonary infection in observation group was 13.79%, which was significantly lower than 50.62% in control group (P<0.05). The duration of pulmonary infection in observation groups was (12.56 ± 1.25) d, which was significantly shorten than (23.89±1.03)d in control group (P<0.05). The detection rate of gram-negative bacteria was the highest, which was 73.58%, followed by gram-positive bacteria and fungi. The quality of life score in observation group was (231.24±17.85)points, which was significantly higher than (206.52±15.33) points in control group(P<0.05). CONCLUSION The FOCUS-PDCA method has a significant effect on prevention of pulmonary infections in patients with chemotherapy, and as compared with conventional treatment, it has prominent advantages.
