Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of sharp instrument injuries exposed to nurses and analyze the influencing factors so as to put forward the intervention measures.
METHODS From Sep 2013 to Aug 2014, a retrospective survey was conducted for the status of treatment of the sharp instrument injuries exposed in nurses of a three-A general hospital in Nantong, and the statistical analysis was performed with the use of SPSS 20.0 software.
RESULTS Of the 541 nurses, 157 person-times had the sharp instrument injuries, with the incidence rate 23.7%, the person-time rate 29.0%; totally 305 (56.3%) nurses had suffered from the sharp instrument injuries, and only 60 (19.7%) nurses had finished the whole process of treatment of the sharp instrument injuries after exposure. The logistic regression analysis showed that the state of source patients resulting in the sharp instrument injuries was the influencing factor for the report of the sharp instrument injuries.
CONCLUSION The incidence of sharp instrument injuries is high in the nurses, however, the implementation rate of whole process treatment is low after the exposure, and the state of source patients is the influencing factor for the report of sharp instrument injuries. It is necessary to strengthen the related occupational training, improve the nurses' awareness of risk of the sharp instrument injuries, and raise the implementation rate of treatment after the exposure.
