Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To investigate the application and effects of VSD drain pipe in prevention of infections in patients with avulsion injury of skin.
METHODS A total of 27 patients with avulsion injury of skin treated in our hospital from Jan. 2014 to Jan. 2015 were enrolled as the study group. VSD drain pipe was used during treatment of wound surfaces, and nursing care in the fixation, negative pressure, sufficient drainage and abnormal condition of the drain pipe were observed. And a total of 31 patients with avulsion injury of skin treated in our hospital from Feb. 2013 to Jan. 2014 were enrolled as the control group. The nursing care during treatment by VSD drain pipe of wound surfaces was observed routinely. The infection rates of the wound surfaces and frequencies of changing negative pressure drainage system in the treatment period were compared between the two groups. And the hospital days from the end of one-stage operation to the start of two-stage operation were compared between the two groups.
RESULTS The infection rate of the wound surfaces, frequency of changing negative pressure drainage system, and average length of stay of the study group were 7.41%, 3.9±1.3, and (9.1±3.3) d, respectively; while those of the control group were 32.26%, 6.5±3.4, and (12.9±3.6) d, respectively. The difference between the two groups was significant (
P<0.05).
CONCLUSION VSD drain pipe can promote the wound surface conditions, reduce the infection rate, control the frequency of changing negative pressure drainage system, ease the pain, elevate nursing standard, and significantly decrease length of stay in patients with avulsion injury of skin, and consequently is worthy of clinical application.
