Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To analyze the results of sampling survey of viral load among men who have sex with men (MSM) infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in Tianjin from 2013 to 2015 so as to acquire the average level of viral load of the MSM with the infection and evaluate the transmission of HIV among the MSM population.
METHODS The MSM with infection were randomly extracted from the data and information management system for prevention and control of AIDS in Tianjin in three years, then the venous blood samples were collected to detect the viral load, and the detection results were observed.
RESULTS A total of 556 MSM with HIV infection were included in the sampling survey from 2013 to 2015; the viral load was detected for 194 MSM with infection in 2013, 178 in 2014, 184 in 2015; 53.6% have received the antiretroviral(ARV) therapy in 2013, 63.5% in 2014, 78.3% in 2015.The result of the community sampling survey of the MSM showed that the average viral load was 324 c/ml in 2013, 232 c/ml in 2014, 189 c/ml in 2015; the viral loads of the MSM who did not receive the ARV therapy were 1 759 c/ml, 1 917 c/ml, and 4 478 c/ml, respectively; the viral loads of the MSM who received the ARV therapy were 75 c/ml, 69 c/ml, and 78 c/ml, respectively; there was between-group difference in the viral load between the treatment group and the non-treatment group in the three years.
CONCLUSION It is necessary to carry out the ARV therapy for the MSM with HIV infection as early as possible, which may facilitate the reduction of average level of viral load and has great significance in reducing the morbidity of individuals and risk of death as well as reducing the capability of transmission of the virus.
