Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of huangqin mouthwashes solutions on prevention of oral fungal infection in patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and to explore the potent methods to prevent oral infections, so as to provide basic evidence for clinical application in the future.
METHODS A total of 102 patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus in our hospital from Jan.2011 to Jan.2014 were randomly divided into the huangqin mouthwashes group, soda water group and control group, with 34 cases in each group. The rinse time was the same for each group. The incidence of oral fungal infections, the infection days and its cure time were recorded.
RESULTS The incidence of oral fungal infection was 8.82%, 14.70% and 47.06% in huangqin mouthwashes group, soda group and control group, respectively. The rates of oral fungal infections among the three groups had significant differences(
P<0.05). Comparing with control group, the incidence of oral fungal infection in huangqin mouthwashes group and soda group was significantly decreased (
P<0.05). The infection days of oral fungal infection and cure time among the three groups had significant differences(
P<0.05). Comparing with control group, the occurrence of oral fungal infection was later and the cure time was shorter in huangqin mouthwashes group and soda water group(
P<0.05), especially in the huangqin mouthwashes group(
P<0.05).
CONCLUSION The huangqin mouthwashes can significantly reduce the incidence of oral fungal infections in the patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus who received glucocorticoid therapy.
