Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To explore the application of balanced scorecard in management of nosocomial infections so as to improve the level of management of nosocomial infections and ensure the safety of patients.
METHODS According to the balanced scorecard principle combined with the hospital accreditation standards, industry inspection content, characteristics of management of nosocomial infections, and risk factors, a four-dimensions performance appraisal table, involving service efficiency, patient service, management process, and development of staff, was formulated.
RESULTS The reporting rate of nosocomial infection cases increased from 81.7% to 97.2% after the balanced scorecard was used; the average length of hospital stay of the patients with nosocomial infections dropped from 41 days to 28 days; the average hospitalization cost decreased from 56 862 yuan to 37 463.76 yuan; the qualified rate of disinfection and isolation increased from 85.2% to 98.6%; the qualified rate of filling out the nosocomial infection management registration book increased from 86.1% to 100.0%; the qualified rate of execution of hand hygiene increased from 77.8% to 91.7%; the qualified rate of management of medical waste increased from 88.9% to 97.2%; the attendance rate of training of nosocomial infection knowledge increased from 73.6% to 91.7%; the qualified rate of occupational protection increased from 87.5% to 97.2%.
CONCLUSION When the balanced scorecard is used for management of nosocomial infections, it can effectively improve the level of management of nosocomial infections, reduce the risk of nosocomial infections, and ensure the safety of the patients.
