Abstract:
OBJECTIV To investigate the current status of nosocomial infections in wards of psychiatry department and put forward the countermeasures.
METHODS The clinical data were collected from 2 071 patients who were hospitalized the wards of psychiatry department from Jan 2013 to Dec 2015 and were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical data, wards, and length of hospital stay were recorded and analyzed, and the medical records that conformed to the diagnostic criteria for nosocomial infections were analyzed by referring to content of registration card for the nosocomial infection cases.
RESULTS The incidence rate of the infections was 4.10% in the 2 071 hospitalized patients of wards of psychiatry department. The probability of nosocomial iinfections was higher in the female patients than in the male patients; the probability of nosocomial infections was lower in the patients of open wards than in the patients of closed wards; the incidence rate of nosocomial infections was higher in the patients with length of hospital stay less than 30 days than in the patients with the length of hospital stay more than 30 days, and there was significant difference (
P<0.05). The respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, and urinary tract were the major infection sites. The nosocomial infections mainly occurred in February-April. A total of 122 strains of pathogens were isolated from 85 patients, among which gram-negative bacteria were dominant, accounting for 62.3%.
CONCLUSION The situation of control of the nosocomial infections is still not optimistic in the wards of psychiatry department, the management relating to the nosocomial infections is so difficult that the prevention measures should be taken aiming at the causes of the nosocomial infections so as to reduce the incidence of the nosocomial infections.
