Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To explore the clinical characteristics of indwelling urinary catheter-related infections and analyze the risk factors so as to provide guidance for clinical control of urinary tract infections.
METHODS A total of 548 patients who were treated with urinary catheter indwelling in the hospital from Mar 2013 to Aug 2015 were retrospectively analyzed, the risk factors for urinary tract infections in 38 patients were studied, the incidence of urinary tract infections in the patients of different age, genders, and catheter indwelling time was recorded, the risk factors for the urinary tract infections in the urinary catheter indwelling patients were defined, and the targeted prevention measures were put forward.
RESULTS Of the 548 patients who were treated with urinary catheter indwelling, 38 had the urinary tract infections, with the infection rate 6.93%.The result of univariate analysis indicated that the incidence of the urinary tract infections in the urinary catheter indwelling patients was significantly associated with age, length of hospital stay, catheter indwelling time, invasive operation, type of antibiotic, malignant tumor, use of hormone, white blood cells counts, and underlying disease (
P<0.05).The result of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age, catheter indwelling time, invasive operation, and white blood cells counts were the independent risk factors for the urinary tract infections.
CONCLUSIONThe major risk factors for the urinary tract infections in the urinary catheter indwelling patients include the age, catheter indwelling time, invasive operation, and white blood cells counts. It is necessary for the hospital to take effective interventions aiming at the above risk factors so as to control and reduce the incidence of the urinary tract infections.
