Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To explore the risk factors for surgical incision infections in department of orthopedics so as to provide theoretical basis for putting forward prevention measures.
METHODS The clinical data of 185 patients who received surgical procedures in orthopedics department from Mar 2015 to Dec 2016 were retrospectively analyzed, the incidence of incision infections was observed, the incidence of incision infections in the patients with different characteristics was observed, and the risk factors for the incision infections were investigated.
RESULTS Of the 185 patients of orthopedics department, 28 had incision infections, with the infection rate 15.14%.The incidence rate of incision infections was relatively high in the patients with obesity, history of diabetes mellitus, surgical sites located below waist and abdomen and at lower extremities, preoperative infections, operation duration no less than 150 min, endotracheal intubation or orthopedics department patients transferring into ICU or without preoperative use of antibiotics. The postoperative incision infections was served as the dependent variable; the obesity, history of diabetes mellitus, surgical site, preoperative complication with infections, preoperative use of antibiotics, operation duration, endotracheal intonation and transferring into ICU were set as independent variables, the multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed, and the result indicated that the preoperative complication with infections, surgical sites located below waist and abdomen and at lower extremities and operation duration no less than 150 min were the risk factors for the postoperative infections, and the OR values were 5.39, 6.06 and 2.79, respectively.
CONCLUSION The incidence rate of incision infections is high in the patients of orthopedics department. The preoperative complication with infections, surgical sites and operation duration are the independent risk factors for the postoperative infections, which can provide guidance for clinical prevention.
