Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To explore the changes of common inflammatory indexes such as procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in the population with chronic
Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection and analyze the clinical significance.
METHODS Totally 110 patients with chronic gastritis were retrospectively enrolled in the study and assigned as the chronic gastritis group, and 130 health people who received physical examination were set as the control group. The levels of serum PCT and CRP of all the enrolled patients were detected, 13 C urea breath test was carried out. The clinical data of all the patients, including gender and age, were collected and statistically analyzed.
RESULTS The CRP level of the chronic gastritis group was significantly higher than that of the control group (
P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the PCT level between the patients tested positive for Hp in the chronic gastritis group and the healthy people (Hp-positive, Hp-negative). There was no significant difference in the PCT level among the age groups of the chronic gastritis group and the control group.
CONCLUSIONS The serum PCT level of the patients with chronic Hp infection is not elevated.
