Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To analyze the diagnosis and treatment of a patient with pulmonary abscess caused by
Streptococcus intermediu combined with
Eikenella corrodens, and to review the clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary abscess, so as to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary abscess.
METHODS The clinical data of a patient with pulmonary abscess infected with
S. intermediu combined with
E. corrodens admitted to the emergency medicine department of the Third Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital in Jan 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. The patient's condition changes, laboratory, imaging data and treatment plan were analyzed and summarized by descriptive method. The epidemiological characteristics, susceptible population, clinical characteristics and treatment of lung abscess were discussed.
RESULTS The patients had
S. intermediu and
E. corrodens co-infection which contained drug-resistant genes. After injection of sensitive antibiotics of imipenem cilastatin sodium for the anti-infection treatment, the patient returned to normal body temperature on the same day. Chest CT examinations were conducted on Feb 2 and Feb 13, respectively, and pulmonary abscess disappeared and pleural effusion gradually absorbed.
CONCLUSION For infectious diseases such as pulmonary abscess, metagenomics next-generation sequencing technology is easier to quickly and accurately target pathogenic microorganisms than the traditional microbial culture method. Antibacterial drugs can be adjusted according to drug-resistant gene detection, effectively shortening the course of disease and benefiting patients.
