Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To explore the differences in trace elements and antioxidant factors in gastric cancer tissues at different stages of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection, to provide basic data for the prevention and treatment of gastric cancer.
METHODS Eighty-one patients with gastric cancer who visited the Xuancheng Central Hospital from Mar. 2021 to Feb. 2024 were selected as the CA group, and 30 patients with chronic gastritis during the same period were selected as the CG group. The differences of serum trace elements and antioxidant factors in the two groups were analyzed, as well as in different stages of Hp infection of CA patients.
RESULTS Compared with CG group, low levels of serum Fe (15.96±1.15), Zn (13.02±1.63), Mg (0.94±0.15), and Ca (1.99±0.06) and high level of Cu (20.15±1.53) were observed in the CA group (P < 0.05). Compared with CA-Hp(-) group, serum Fe (15.90±0.45) and Ca (1.94±0.45) were low and Cu (20.54±2.64) was high in CA-Hp (+)group (P < 0.05), while the serum levels of antioxidant factors catalase (CAT) (56.93±6.36) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) (3.75±0.33) were low and nitric oxide (NO) (63.55±5.54) and malondialdehyde (MDA) (9.23±0.32) were high in the CA group (P < 0.05). The serum levels of CAT and SOD were low and NO and MDA were high (P < 0.05). Compared with staged Ⅰ and Ⅱ CA-Hp (+)group, serum Fe, Zn and Mg levels in staged Ⅲ and Ⅳ were low and Cu was high (P < 0.05), and the serum CAT and SOD levels were low(P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION There are differences in serum trace elements and antioxidant factors in patients with gastric cancer and chronic gastritis, of which Hp infection and TNM staging of gastric cancer are influencing factors.
