Abstract:
Pulmonary infection has always been a global health challenge, especially with the increase of drug-resistant bacteria and the worsen of effectiveness of traditional antimicrobial therapy. In this context, phage therapy has attracted much attention as a personalized and targeted alternative therapy for antimicrobial agents. It has great potential to solve the problems in the treatment of multidrug-resistant pulmonary infections and has become a hot topic in current research. This article reviews the progress in this field in the past five years and introduces the characteristics of phages and their potentials in the treatment of multidrug-resistant pulmonary infections. Although there are still many challenges in the clinical application, phage therapy as a new treatment method still has broad prospects.
