Abstract: The health industry standard of the People's Republic of China, WS/T 859-2025 "Standard for prevention and control of healthcare associated infection in neonatal ward" (hereinafter referred to as "this Standard"), was issued by the Department of Regulations of the National Health Commission on Jul. 30, 2025, and will come into effect on Feb. 1, 2026. To facilitate better understanding and application of this Standard by clinical healthcare workers, hospital administrators, and other relevant department personnel, this paper provides an interpretation of this Standard from four aspects: basis for formulation, compilation principles, main content (including terms and definitions, management requirements, surveillance and prevention and control measures), as well as the adoption and non-adoption of public feedback during the consultation process.
