Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To survey the utilization and management status of automated endoscope reprocessor (AER) in medical institutions in Jiangsu Province, providing references for improving endoscope reprocessing quality.
METHODS From Jun. 30, 2025 to Jul. 7, 2025, a questionnaire survey was conducted among endoscopy center staff and hospital-associated infection management personnel from 73 medical institutions in Jiangsu Province (including 41 tertiary hospitals and 16 primary/secondary hospitals each). The survey covered aspects such as configuration, functionality, usage, monitoring and maintenance for AER.
RESULTS The AER allocation rate reached 100.00%, but 79.45% of institutions had fewer than 5 units. Domestic brands dominated (60.27%), with "immersion + flow-through" and "immersion + spray + flow-through" as the primary disinfection methods (36.99% each). Peracetic acid (78.08%) and ortho-phthalaldehyde (60.27%) were the most common disinfectants, and 84.93% of institutions used disinfectants repeatedly. Leak testing functionality was available in 60.27% of AERs, while 72.60% of AERs featured connection error alarms. Although 97.26% of institutions have established new staff training systems, only 49.32% received regular manufacturer maintenance for AER.
CONCLUSIONS While AER allocation rate in Jiangsu medical institutions is high, deficiencies of AER persist in functional completeness, standardized management and systematic maintenance.
