Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To conduct a multidimensional study on the effect of influenza vaccination on employees' health outcomes and employers' productivity losses and perform the cost-benefit analysis so as to provide evidence-based bases for carrying out the influenza vaccination strategies in the employers.
METHODS Totally 5 databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang and VIP, were searched to systematically collect original researches relating to the influenza vaccinations of the employees from their establishment to Sep. 2025. The Meta-analysis and descriptive statistical analysis were performed.
RESULTS A total of 16 literatures were included in the study, of which 3 were randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and 13 were non-randomized controlled trials (NRCTs), involving 20, 280 employees in total. The result of Meta-analysis showed that the influenza vaccination could remarkably reduce the incidence rate of influenza-like illness (ILI)
RR=0.57, 95%
CI(0.37,0.86),
P=0.007, shorten the duration of ILI symptoms
MD=-0.34, 95%
CI(-0.66,-0.02),
P=0.040, reduce the absence rate
RR=0.76, 95%
CI(0.64,0.91),
P=0.003, and shorten the duration of absence
MD=-0.76, 95%
CI(-1.10,-0.43),
P<0.001. The result of cost-benefit analysis of the employees' influenza vaccination was reported in 6 literatures, of which 5 were proved to possess the cost-benefit.
CONCLUSIONS The influenza vaccination can not only effectively safeguard the employees' personal health but also remarkably reduce the productivity losses due to the absence and low production efficiency, and it has the cost-effectiveness. Thus, it is necessary for the employers to encourage and support the employees in getting vaccinated proactively.
