Construction and application of an information-based whole-process chain management model for loaner instrumentation and implants in central sterile supply departments

    Abstract:
OBJECTIVE  To explore the construction method and application effect of the information-based model for the whole-process chain management for loaner instrumentation and implants.
METHODS  A total of 2 147 packages of loaner instrumentation and implants processed by the central sterile supply department (CSSD) of Suqian Hospital, Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital from May to Dec. 2024 were included. A total of 1 036 packages managed with conventional methods from May to Aug. 2024 were assigned to the control group, while the 1 111 packages managed with the whole-process chain management information model from Sep. to Dec. 2024 constituted the study group. We compared the two groups regarding process management quality (on-time delivery rate, completeness rate, return rate after secondary disinfection and traceability information completeness rate), outcome management quality (qualified cleaning rate and early release rate of biological monitoring), work efficiency (time required for information inquiry and device receiving) and staff satisfaction.
RESULTS  A total of 2 147 packages of loaner instrumentation and implants were processed in this study. In terms of process management quality, the study group achieved an on-time delivery rate of 91.90%, a completeness rate of 93.07%, a secondary disinfection return rate of 99.01% and a traceability information completeness rate of 89.29%, all of which were higher than those of the control group (P<0.05). With respect to outcome quality management, regarding cleaning quality, 300 instruments were sampled from each group for inspection. The study group achieved a visual inspection pass rate of 98.00% and an ATP fluorescence detection pass rate of 96.67%, both significantly higher than the corresponding rates in the control group (P<0.05). Regarding biological monitoring, the study group underwent 502 tests, with a pass rate of 100.00% and an early release rate of 3.59%. The control group underwent 479 tests, also achieving a 100.00% pass rate, but its early release rate of 10.02% was significantly higher than that of the study group (P<0.05).For work efficiency, the time required for information inquiry and device receiving in the study group were (2.74±1.38) minutes and (3.43±1.62) minutes, respectively, both of which were shorter than those of the control group (P<0.05). A survey of 115 staff members was conducted in each group. The study group demonstrated a significantly higher satisfaction score (40.89±5.04) and satisfaction rate (94.78%) compared to the control group (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONS  The construction and application of an information-based whole-process chain management model for loaner instrumentation and implants significantly enhances management quality, work efficiency and staff satisfaction while reducing device-related risks, thereby contributing to improved surgical safety.
