Abstract: Cupping is a traditional treatment method of Chinese medicine. With the continuous development of technology, the expansion of application, the affirmation of curative effect and the increase of the acceptance of people, cupping has been more and more widely used in clinical practice. However, the traditional treatment often focuses on the curative effect and ignores the risks of infections. Especially in recent years, with the popularization of acupuncture and cupping, the problem of cupping device pollution by blood and body fluid is becoming more and more serious. If the cleaning and disinfection technology of cupping device is neglected and cups without standardized cleaning and disinfection are reused, other therapies may be exposed to the risk of infections by hematogenous pathogens. Some researchers abroad have reported that cupping was a risk factor for skin infections and blood-transmitted diseases, such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and AIDS. Up to now, there has no definite classification of risk levels for cupping devices at home and abroad, as well as no standardized disinfection method. It is necessary that the risk level of cupping device should be scientifically graded. Then effective, safe and suitable disinfection methods should be selected for clinical use to improve the accuracy and compliance of cleaning and disinfection of cupping device in clinical practice. Meanwhile, hospital infection management system of cupping device needs to be established, and the awareness of infection prevention among medical staff should be strengthened. It is important to strengthen cleaning and disinfection management of reusable cupping device, examine cleaning and disinfection quality regularly, and implement "one person, one use, one cleaning, and one disinfection" earnestly, to prevent the occurrence of iatrogenic infections.
