Abstract: OBJECTIVE To investigate the epidemiological characteristics and clinical features of three clustering epidemics of clinically diagnosed chickenpox among health care workers in a general hospital from Sep 2016 to Nov 2016 and summarize the experience and lessons of control of nosocomial infections so as to provide guidance for clinical diagnosis and treatment. METHODS By referring to National Network for Disease Control and Prevention and Public Health Information System in China, the data were collected via telephone call inquiries and onsite interviews with related personnel; the distribution characteristics of 12 cases of epidemics, causes of epidemics, and key points of control of epidemics were analyzed by means of descriptive statistical analysis method. RESULTS Hospital-associated infection might be a high-risk factor for two of three clustering epidemics of clinically diagnosed chickenpox among the health care workers.A package of emergency plans for prevention and control of spread of chickenpox in the hospital were intensified and implemented in accordance with etiological characteristics of varicella-zoster virus and the clinical characteristics of chickenpox.Totally 12 health care workers who had chickenpox were basically cured and returned to work position, the patients who were taken care by the health care workers have peacefully spent the medical observation period, and no case of chickenpox has been monitored. CONCLUSION It is an effective way to implement the standard prevention, air isolation, and contact isolation systems and monitor the immune state of chickenpox of the health care workers so as to control and prevent the nosocomial infection caused by varicella-zoster virus.
