Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To analyze the risk factors for neonatal infection in patients with premature rupture of membranes (PROM).
METHODS The clinical data were retrospectively collected from 582 PROM patients and their neonates who were treated in Hainan West Central Hospital from Jan 2019 to Dec 2021, and the neonates were divided into the infection group with 62 cases and the no infection group with 520 cases according to the status of neonatal infection. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed for risk factors for the neonatal infections in the PROM patients.
RESULTS The results of the univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that gestational age, Apgar score 1 min after the birth, serum lactic acid level of neonate, amniotic fluid contamination, Group B
Streptococcus (GBS) test and complication with chorioamnionitis were the risk factors for the neonatal infections in the PROM patients.
CONCLUSION The risk factors for the neonatal infections in the PROM patients include the less gestational age, low Apgar score 1 min after birth, high serum lactic acid level of neonate, amniotic fluid contamination, positive test for GBS and complication with chorioamnionitis. It is necessary for clinicians to take targeted interventions and treat the PROM patients and their neonates who have the above features so as to reduce the risk of neonatal infections.
