One case of epididymitis complicated with Kocuria rhizophila bloodstream infection and literature review

  • Kocuria rhizophila is a rare opportunistic pathogen in clinical practice. English databases PubMed and Embase, and the Chinese databases CNKI, Wanfang, SinoMed, and the Chinese Clinical Case Repository were retrieved to include 10 patients with K. rhizophila infection that met the criteria and 1 epididymitis patient complicated with K. rhizophila infection who was treated in the hospital, the medical records of the patients were analyzed. The information regarding the clinical characteristics and drug treatment regimens of the 11 patients were summarized. The study in this article indicates that the species of infection mainly appear among the patients treated with invasive procedures. The bloodstream infection, peritonitis, endocarditis and joint infection were the major types of infections, and it may also lead to epididymitis. The bacterium is highly sensitive to vancomycin and tetracycline. All infected patients have good prognosis.
